Children learn by exploring, asking questions, testing ideas and building relationships with the people and world around them. At Golden Hearts, learning experiences are shaped by each child's interests, strengths and stage of development — giving them space to play, create, communicate and grow with confidence, from six weeks old onward.
How children learn
Learning begins with curiosity.
Long before children can read or write, they're already learning — through play, conversation, movement and the relationships around them. At Golden Hearts, we treat these everyday moments as real learning, not simply time between "the important parts" of the day.
In everyday practice, this might look like:
- Building and balancing

The educator's role
Present, thoughtful and responsive.
Play-based learning doesn't mean unsupervised time. It means an educator who is genuinely present — watching closely, listening carefully, and noticing what a child is working on before deciding how, or whether, to step in.

Program stages
Learning that grows with every stage.
Both Golden Hearts Crestmead centres welcome children from 6 weeks to 5 years and offer a Queensland Approved Kindergarten Program. OSHC is available at Centre 1 only. Contact your preferred centre for current room details.

Stage 1 · Nursery · 6 weeks – 15 months
Security, connection and gentle discovery
Expect: warm, unhurried handovers and regular conversation about your child's day, feeding and rest.

Environments
Spaces that invite children to explore.
Indoors
Quieter corners sit alongside busier spaces for building, art and imaginative play — giving children room to concentrate or collaborate, depending on what they need.
Outdoors
Both centres balance indoor learning with time outdoors, where children build physical confidence and a genuine curiosity about the natural world, matched to every age from Nursery through to OSHC.
Nature in practice
Growing with the natural world.
Nature shows up throughout our approach to learning — through natural materials, garden exploration, seasonal change and simple, unhurried time spent outside. It's a practical extension of the resilience and growth our Golden Pothos emblem represents, and a genuine, active part of the school-readiness journey for our older children.
Beyond the everyday
Enriching experiences, beyond the classroom.
Alongside our everyday learning, children also have the opportunity to take part in additional experiences delivered through trusted external providers:
- A science-focused program using engaging, everyday activities to build STEM skills
- An interactive music program, offered across age groups throughout the centre
- Swimming lessons, with a holistic focus on water safety
Families and learning
Families are part of the learning story.
You know your child better than anyone who meets them at the centre. We rely on that knowledge — through conversations about routines and interests, cultural experiences you'd like reflected in your child's day, and honest updates in both directions.

Two centres
A shared philosophy, shaped by each centre.
Our two Crestmead centres share the same Golden Hearts values and sit at the same site, opposite St Francis College. Both offer the same core early-learning journey — with a couple of differences worth knowing before you choose.
Golden Hearts Crestmead Centre 1
6 weeks to 5 years, with OSHC (Outside School Hours Care). Open Monday to Friday, 6:30am – 6:30pm.
Golden Hearts Crestmead Centre 2
6 weeks to 5 years, with a Queensland Approved Kindergarten Program. OSHC is not offered at this centre. Open Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 6:00pm.
